Site visits we offer
Two site visits are included to participant and speaker tickets on a first come, first served basis. Site visits are held on May 31, at 10.00 and June 2, 14.00.
1. Turku Fast and Furious
Join the fun and ride along with Föri & Funi – Try Turku’s two ‘highly original’ public transport vehicles! Join this tour and explore some of the more distinctive sides of Turku. With the local guide you are in good hands as you first depart on a ‘quaint’ little cruise aboard the unique and famous Föri city ferry. Then take a funicular ride inside the brand new Funi – not your everyday kind of public transport and quite a ‘captivating’ experience! Funi takes you up to the city’s newest neighborhood of Kakolanmäki. This former prison area has now been transformed into a fantastic urban oasis full of fascinating facilities. During the tour you will also hear more about other public transport vehicles in Turku.
2. Riverside Walk
The walking tour along the River Aura introduces conference guests to what the locals consider as their living room – the banks of the River Aura – and at the same time Turku’s history and present day. Along the journey, get to know the city art, historic buildings and sites of cultural significance. During the tour you will also hear more about the bridges of the town and how Turku started to expand into the delta of the River Aura in the 13th century. Since then it has been the centre of traffic as well as the starting point for many routes – historical and contemporary, onshore and offshore.
3. Regional Mobility Management
This site visit takes place near the legendary Föri, in the premises of the Regional Council of Southwest Finland. During the two hours, we will hear a review of regional mobility management; its history, current status and future goals. Participants will also be introduced to different materials produced along the years for the support of mobility management.
4. Electric Mobility in Turku
This electric mobility tour will take you around the city exploring local electric mobility solutions and projects. Tour will start at conference main venue from where our Föli electric bus will pick you up and drive you to several locations where new electric mobility solutions are done by city and its partners. You and other participants will hear about biggest projects done in the field of electric mobility by the City of Turku and bigger picture what mobility in city will look like in future.
5. University of Turku and Sustainable Mobility
This site visit exhibits the ways in which one of the largest universities in Finland approaches sustainable mobility and mobility management. We look at present day solutions as well as future prospects. The walking tour around the compact campus area takes approximately 1 hour, and focuses on the University Hill area, next to the Old Town of Turku.
Welcome reception, May 31
Welcome reception will be held on a road ferry called Elektra, Finland's first hybrid electric ferry. The evening will be spent getting to know the other mobility management experts while cruising in the world’s most beautiful archipelago. Notice that this is an outdoor event and the deck of the ferry is not suitable for high heel shoes. Also, don’t forget to bring warm clothes with you.
Conference dinner, June 1
ECOMM2022 conference dinner takes place in EduCity building, which is the main campus of Turku University of Applied Sciences. The venue is modern and fresh and therefore perfect for a relaxed evening with delicious Finnish food and mingling with other guests. Later in the evening a band will entertain the audience with danceable music.
